Prague

A maze of cobbled streets and spires, Prague is possibly one of the world’s most intriguing and romantic cities. This is a place that needs to be explored, revealing hidden gardens, quaint squares and old-fashioned bars & restaurants, away from the hustle & bustle. And for beer lovers Prague really is an unmissable stop – you can enjoy the big popular brands - Urquell, Staropramen and Budvar, but today many new small producers have come on board and are worth sampling.

LGBT info – Over the last few years the scene seems to have settled around the Vinohradská and in the New Town / Prague 2 district, just south of the city centre and the main rail station.

    • No ordinary bridge
    • The famous Charles Bridge crosses the Vltava River since the 15th century and is one of Prague’s most famous landmarks, with its three guard towers. Today the bridge is pedestrians only and it’s a fairy-tale monument leading to the Old Town.

    • Check the time on the oldest clock
    • The Old Astronomical Clock is located in the Old Town Square and it’s the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest one still operating, having been installed in 1410. It’s quite amazing to think that this device has been telling the time for more than six hundred years!

    • Castle Tales
    • The imposing structure of Prague Castle dates back to over 1,100 years ago. In the course of its history it has been the home of kings of Bohemia, Holy Roman emperors, and the presidents of defunct Czechoslovakia. It is still the home of the Czech President. It’s a massive complex: according to the Guinness Book of Records, it is the largest ancient castle in the world, occupying an area of almost 70,000 square metres.

    • Have a walk in Wenceslas Square
    • Less a square than a boulevard, Wenceslas Square has the shape of a very long rectangle. It’s the main location in the New Town and has been the backdrop of many events that have taken place in Prague.

    • Cruise the Vltava
    • A great way to see the city from a different angle is to choose one of the many cruise options on the river. It’s a great thing to do especially in the summer when there are many to choose from - some also offer lunch.
