Sunsets over the Aegean

  • Mykonos

There is nothing quite like Mykonos. The sea as blue as it can possibly be, the white sugar cube houses, the rugged beaches, the fabled Aegean sunsets. Ancient history and mythology abounds here, around the mysterious ruins of Delos, just a short boat hop from Mykonos Town. No wonder that a few jet setters like Jacqueline Kennedy/Onassis and Grace Kelly first found this place irresistible in the 1960s. Since then many other celebrities have come and left their mark, but Mykonos has definitely not lost its appeal. Starting in the 1970s, with the opening of Pierro’s Bar, the island has welcomed the LGBT community with open arms and still today it’s a huge magnet for gay tourists from around the world, who find an open and accepting Mediterranean paradise.

    • Elia Beach
    • Of all the beaches in Mykonos, this is surely the most beautiful. It is also the longest beach and it’s just 10 km from Mykonos town. The gay part of the beach is to the right and there are sunbeds and shades for rent, as well as snacks and drinks (delivered to your sunbed as well!). Further down there are some rocks where the action happens, followed by smaller coves.

    • Paradise & Super Paradise
    • Super Paradise Beach, next to Paradise Beach, is considered as one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece and has beautiful crystalline waters and soft golden sand. It is possibly the best known gay beach in Greece, hence it can get very crowded during peak season. Arrive early for the best spots!

    • The Old Town & the famous Windmills
    • When you see the sugar cube houses, the famous windmills, the tiny alleys, the tavernas alongside the waterfront at Little Venice you fully understand why this place is so magical and celebrated the world over. Do not miss the spectacular Mykonos sunset viewed from up the hill or from the windmills.

    • Delos
    • A short hop on a boat from Mykonos Town will lead visitors to the atmospheric ruins of Delos. Three thousand years ago this now desert and barren island was a major religious centre and port. There are some impressing buildings, temples, mosaics and the excavations really convey the fact that this was a very large city in those ancient and mysterious times. A must see!
