Ibiza’s nights need no introductions. The White Island is known all over the world for its outrageous parties and its laid-back attitude. There are a few LGBT-themed nights in the famous clubs like Amnesia and Pacha, but to be honest there’s never really any problems in being openly gay anywhere here!  And yet Ibiza also offers stunning beaches, quiet corners and an attractive interior that is worth visiting. Its neighbouring Formentera Island is a gorgeous natural paradise, where peace and relaxation abound, especially if you visit outside the busy summer season.

Most LGBT bars are located in Ibiza Town along the Calle de la Virgen / Mare de Déu and a few more on top of the Muralla, the city’s top fortification. Bear in mind that most bars, as well as the big clubs, close during the winter period (October – April).

Gaytway Guide to Ibiza

  • Part of the Gaytway purpose is to connect LGBT+ travellers with people, places and experiences. Our specially curated guides introduce you to what's on offer in each destination; where to stay and rest tired weary travellers feet and rejuvinate in between exploring sights and wonders, as well as where you can eat, drink and while the days and night away.

And because we too love travelling and exploring, and know you can never know everything about somewhere, we would love to hear from you about that great place to stay, the new and hip bar or club in town or ways to meet and connect with the local LGBT+ community. That's why we make it easy for you to send us your own personal recommendations!

    The Purple

The Purple is since 2014 the first and only accommodation in San Antonio, Ibiza, dedicated exclusively to the LGBT market - more than gay friendly.
    • Explore the Old Town
    • Ibiza’s old town is often packed by tourists, especially at the height of summer and yet it is often possible to turn a corner of an old alley and find yourself immersed in peace and quiet, especially during the central hours of the day. Of course if it’s fun & entertainment you want, the city is packed with bars, small pretty shops and gorgeous restaurants. Don’t miss the stunning views from the top of the ramparts.

    • The Road of the Virgin
    • Ibiza’s bars are almost all without exception along the Calle de la Virgen (Mare de Déu in Catalan). At night this narrow and pretty old lane is where you come to watch and be watched. Some of the bars also have terraces on the other side of the buildings, facing the old harbour.

    • Take a dip at Las Salinas
    • Ibiza’s main gay beach is at the southern tip of the island. It’s a bit of a trek to here, but this is one of Europe’s main gay destinations and it’s absolutely packed in the afternoons. A massive rainbow flag and the famous gay chiringuito will direct you to the exact location of the gay beach. Further down there is a rocky bit with some cruising.

    • Clubbing Heaven
    • Clubbing in Ibiza is pretty spectacular and whether one wants to party hard or soft there are countless options. Note that some venues are more or less ‘gay’ depending on the night/event, so check what’s on each night to avoid disappointment. During the day club-boys & girls go around beaches (and later in the evening at bars) distributing entry discount wristbands.

    • Sunsetting at Café del Mar
    • The Café del Mar, in Sant Antoni de Portmany has been around since 1980 and it is a landmark for every fan of ‘chill-out music’ – the typical Balearic ambient, easy listening music. Come here early as it gets super busy and watch the sun going down while having a few cocktails.
