Thousands march in Canberra in favour of same-sex marriage
This Saturday 2 September Canberra turned into a sea of colour and glitter as protesters took to the streets in support of same-sex marriage, in view of the upcoming postal referendum. Despite the grey weather, thousands of people gathered in Garema Place, then marched through the civic centre. The rally was organised by marriage equality organisation group Equal Love, the group behind the large protest in Melbourne last weekend, which saw more than 20,000 people take part. The Australian capital Territory (ACT) was the first state or territory to legalise marriage equality in 2013, but the Australian High Court then nullified the law.
